Prayer for Antwon by Pittsburgh Artist Vanessa German

Dear Antwon,

the sky has left itself for the sea; there will be no dreaming tonight. the pastors have all called for prayer & organized determination, but a friend of mine has recently found a good deal on some new old stock flamethrowers and is considering a bulk purchase.

i want you to know that we know that this place is not safe for us.

i want you to know that we know that this place is not safe for us to be free & whole & loving & loved within— we know that our backs are takeable. there iz no justice in the snatching of our breath from our bones— our Lives are as tho the trash can on trash day, right to take out.

we are looking for a new place to set the wings of our lungs to flight, this place is a cage on its head, it is a dance in a festival of forgotten bones, there iz cruel death here & it bounces. the neighbors laugh at it & say things like. go team. & how do I get to the grocery store. it is frightening.

we have begun cataloguing the few safe places left around here. the page is mostly empty, but our hands, our hands are full.
