Pittsburgh is proud to welcome 15 upcoming summer events that will be taking place in the Greater Pittsburgh region. Starting Memorial Day weekend and lasting through the beginning of September, these competitions will host more than 113,600 visitors, 25,700 contracted hotel room nights and provide an estimated $33.1 million in direct spending.

 

“We are excited to kick off an action-packed summer of sports here in the city of Pittsburgh,” said Jennifer Hawkins, executive director of SportsPITTSBURGH. “Beginning Memorial Day weekend, the community will once again demonstrate why Pittsburgh is one of the most iconic and legendary sports destinations in the country. The authentic experience that our community can offer the athletes and fans, from the baseball and softball complexes in Monroeville to the versatility of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, communicates why Pittsburgh is an ideal place to host sports events.”

 

East Coast Volleyball Championships  May 25-27

  • Celebrating its 11th anniversary of hosting in Pittsburgh, the 2019 East Coast Volleyball Championships will return to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, May 25-27. Being played on 49 courts, all inside the Convention Center, this tournament will feature some of the best girl’s club volleyball teams from across the Mid-Atlantic region. This event is expected to use more than 4,700 room nights and generate an estimated direct spend of more than $4 million.
  • With this year’s attendance of more than 11,400 spectators and participants, the growth of this event is evident year-over-year and showcases the versatility of the Convention Center as a top-notch sports venue.

 

Atlantic Coast Baseball and Softball – Multiple Events

·         This year’s seven Atlantic Coast Baseball events are expected to draw more than 17,300 attendees and generate an estimated direct spend of more than $9.1 million.

·         Atlantic Coast Baseball’s Cap Classic has grown continuously and has sold out in all six years of existence. In this year’s competition, there are more than 200 participating teams from more than 12 states, as well as two Canadian provinces.

  • Atlantic Coast Baseball provides the most competitive league in the Tri-State area for AAU Caliber Travel Teams.

  • ACS Open – June 14-16
  • Cap Classic – June 20-23
  • Diamond Kinetics Klassic – June 28-30
  • Diamond Klassic – June 28-30
  • Louisville Wood Slugger Wood Bat World Series – July 18-21
  • Showdown in Steel Town – July 19-21
  • Summer’s Last Chance – July 26-28
  • King of the City – September 8-9    

 

Stars & Stripes Nationals – July 5-7

  • USA BMX hosts its Stars & Stripes Nationals event at South Park BMX, which has been voted as one of the best BMX tracks in the country.
  • Throughout the Fourth of July holiday weekend, the Stars & Stripes Nationals will bring in more than 1,200 attendees, more than 3,600 room nights and will generate an estimated direct spend of more than $1.6 million.

 

 

Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix – July 11-21

  • Celebrating its 37th year, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (PVGP) is the nation’s largest vintage sports car racing event and the only one staged on city streets. Race weekend will feature a more than 2,500-vehicle car show and vintage races through the streets on July 20 and 21. 
  • Over the course of the 10-day race week, the PVGP will bring in more than 75,000 attendees and generate an estimated direct spend of more than $14.4 million.
  • The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix has named Shelby and Mustang as their 2019 Marque of the Year and will honor the Alfa Romeo as its spotlight car.
  • The PVGP’s mission is to produce a world-class vintage racing event in order to raise funds to help provide residential care, treatment and support for developmentally disabled individuals in the Pittsburgh region. Since 1983, it has raised more than $5.5 million for its two local charities: the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny Valley School, including a record of $410,000 last year.

 

GAMMA Pickleball Classic – July 26-28

  • As the fastest growing sport in the United States, the GAMMA Pickleball Classic is the premier tournament in the Eastern Region of the country and returns to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center for its fourth year in a row.
  • In 2018, more than 600 players from 28 states plus Canada participated. With more than 35 courts this year, those numbers will increase.
  • This year’s competition will bring in 700 attendees and generate an estimated direct spend of $100,000.
  • A percentage of the proceeds will benefit the Parkinson Foundation of Western Pennsylvania.

 

ReplayFX Arcade and Video Game Festival – August 1-4

  • The 5th annual event will take place at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, featuring more than 1,000 arcade and pinball machines and hundreds of retro console games such as the Magnavox Odyssey, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch & VR.
  • The event features The Knights, the first esports team based in Pittsburgh, who will be focusing on combining modern and retro gaming. Replay FX boasts the largest pinball tournament in history offering more than $100,000 in prizes.
  • This year’s festival will attract more than 6,600 attendees, more than 2,000 room nights and an estimated direct spend of $3.2 million.
