County Executive Rich Fitzgerald issued the following statement following the Pennsylvania Senate’s unanimous confirmation of Chief Public Defender Elliot Howsie as a Judge of the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas:

“Congratulations to Elliot on today’s confirmation of his appointment. The confidence shown in him by Governor Wolf with his nomination, and by the Senate as evidenced by his unanimous confirmation is also a reflection of his ‘highly qualified’ rating by the Allegheny County Bar Association.

“I know that Elliot will bring the same fire, drive and dedication that he showed in the Public Defender’s office to the bench. He also brings his perspective as a Wilkinsburg native, as the son of a janitor, as a man who has seen the generational impact of the justice system in our community, and as a public servant who has worked in every sector of the justice system. He has dedicated his life to service and has consistently sought opportunities to better our community. Our county and its residents will be well-served with Elliot Howsie on the bench.”
